Poll finds 90% of Aurora investors oppose Curaleaf takeover bid An informal poll by The Marijuana Herald finds 90% of self-identified Aurora Cannabis investors oppose Curaleaf Holdings' current takeover bid, while 64% of self-identified Curaleaf investors support the proposed acquisition. The Marijuana Herald collected the first 50 responses from people identifying as Aurora investors and the first 50 from those identifying as Curaleaf investors, for a total of 100 respondents. Connecting the Dots Between Cannabis Laws and Workplace Absenteeism No one wants to hear their HR teams talk about marijuana or other controlled substances in the workplace, whether for medical use or its recreational benefits, but these topics are worth being transparent about. New research from the University of Georgia shows that changes to cannabis laws can have a direct impact on workplace absenteeism, specifically in terms of medical marijuana usage. According to the paper, states where medical cannabis use has been authorized can find employees taking fewer days of sick leave by about 6.9%. While no direct links have been established between recreational cannabis legalization and health-related workplace absenteeism, employees who rely on the substance for wellness reasons can find much relief, adding a vote in favor of legalization of medical marijuana use. |

Medical Cannabis Reduces Pain, Insomnia Or Mood Issues In 91% Of Older Adults, Study Finds Medical marijuana helps 91 percent of older adults improve their pain, insomnia and mood or behavioral symptoms, a new study has found. The research involved 124 people over the age of 65 who received medical cannabis from a specialized practice in Colombia and whose symptoms were measured at baseline, 44 of whom had a follow-up visit after three months. Most of the participants had not previously used marijuana, and the most frequent diagnoses they presented with were pain-related and musculoskeletal disorders, cancer and neurodegenerative and non-degenerative neurological disorders—with their top therapeutic objectives being relief of pain, mood/behavioral issues, insomnia and motor symptoms. |

Canada now the world’s largest legal cannabis market
OTTAWA — Canada is now the largest legal cannabis market in the world by monthly retail sales, with dispensaries outnumbering liquor stores in some communities as national sales climb to record levels. Statistics Canada says cannabis stores sold $517.8 million worth of products in June, setting a monthly record. The previous month also surpassed half a billion dollars, with revised May sales reaching $510.4 million. Both totals exceeded the previous record of $508.6 million set in December 2025. |

A new study says variety and convenience seem to drive consumer choices in the legal market, while price is not a significant differentiator. The research, published in the Journal of Cannabis Research, compares provincial retail systems and concludes that legal market adoption was higher in provinces with competitive private retail systems. Gallup: 17% of Americans Smoke Cannabis; 15% Consume Edibles Seventeen percent of Americans said they smoke cannabis, according to a Gallup poll released Monday. The figure ties the previous record high found by the pollster in 2023. In 2024, the number of Americans polled by Gallup who said they smoked cannabis fell to 13% but rose to 14% in 2025. Another 15% of those polled indicated they consume cannabis edibles, including 17% of women and 12% of men; comparatively, 15% of women and 18% of men said they smoked cannabis. |

The High-THC Cannabis Debate Misses the Point: Adults Already Understand Potency
There is a strange assumption buried inside much of the modern debate over high-potency cannabis. It assumes adults cannot adjust how much cannabis they consume. A flower testing above 30% THC, a potent hash, a concentrate or another high-cannabinoid product is frequently discussed as though its potency automatically determines how much someone will use. But consumers do not necessarily consume every cannabis product in identical quantities. Someone smoking a powerful concentrate can take a considerably smaller amount than someone smoking flower. Someone using strong flower can take one pull instead of finishing an entire joint. Experienced consumers regularly adjust dosage based on product type, tolerance, desired experience, setting and budget. That basic idea has become central to an increasingly important conversation inside legal cannabis. |

St Kitts sets global standard with seed-to-bank cannabis system
Saint Kitts and Nevis will track the money in its medicinal cannabis sector as closely as the plants. The Medicinal Cannabis Authority (MCA) has contracted GrowerIQ to run a national seed-to-sale system that records every financial transaction alongside every plant and batch, from the first licence application onward. The design follows the Federation’s own rulebook. The Cannabis (Medicinal Cannabis Licensing) Regulations, SRO No. 17 of 2022 require every financial transaction connected to a licensed cannabis business to be recorded in the national tracking system, with the Authority holding real-time read access. Regulation 55 names seventeen transaction categories, from investments, loans and capital expenditure through rent, salaries and taxes to dividends and banking. The regulation ties the requirement to the country’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing obligations. |

We grew up being told, ?“Just say no,” ?“Say nope to dope,” ?“Choose life, not drugs.” Now we read articles about how psychedelics can improve brain health in mainstream media and scroll past Instagram posts advertising cannabis as the latest essential wellness treatment for on-the-go millennials. A change is happening, even if we can’t fully see it. Is the War on Drugs over? If so, who won? Or is it simply changing shape? How did this change come about, and what comes after it? If we have lost the War on Drugs, what does the postwar reconstruction look like? To understand why this shift is happening, and why now (after all, activists have been calling for drug legalisation since the 1960s), it helps to zoom out. We are living through an era the economic historian Adam Tooze has called a ?“polycrisis.” The economy is in long-term stagnation. Decades of free-market policy have carved a huge global divide between owners and earners, between asset holders and people who must work for a living. The global superpowers are descending into hostile trade wars, and people fear that artificial intelligence will take away the few remaining professional jobs. Everyone is looking for a fix. |

Finished products containing more than 0.4 milligrams of combined total THC and designated similar-effect cannabinoids per container would no longer qualify as hemp. Canadian LPs expand presence in European cannabis
Canada-headquartered global medical cannabis company Tilray Brands is expanding cultivation across Canada and Europe, the company said Thursday. Tilray says it’s increased annual production capacity to about 275 metric tons, up from 210, to serve growing international and medical cannabis markets. The expanded output comes from both its Canadian facility, located in Quebec, and its EU-GMP-certified facility in Portugal. The increased cannabis production is intended for burgeoning international cannabis markets in Europe, Australia and other regulated markets. |

Canadian Cannabis Retail Sales Hit New $500M+ Record in June 2026 Retail cannabis sales surpassed half a billion dollars in May and June of 2026, both setting new records, according to the latest figures from Statistics Canada, which also include notable increases to previous estimates for May 2026. Cannabis stores across the country sold $517.8 million worth of cannabis in June 2026 and $510.4 million in May. Both months outperformed the previous high-water mark of $508.6 million in December, 2025. |

Yet for millions of Americans on probation or parole suffering from qualifying conditions like chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety, that legalization is worth very little in practice. In many states, people on probation and parole are forbidden to use medical marijuana, even when legally recommended by a physician. It’s an oversight that state lawmakers need to address. |
